See Full Schedule. Twenty Twelve tells a very simple story. A group of professionals have been brought together to deliver the Olympic Games. They have to pre-empt every potential problem, find workable solution, liaise with the appropriate agencies and generally make things work. However, there is one problem…. There is something about the mockumentary format that really lends depth and significance to meaningful glances after comic moments have passed. There is nothing that happens in Twenty Twelve that feels far-fetched or even unlikely, given the kind of people that tend to get to do this kind of work and the way they work. All of the deftly scripted management-speak came out of the mouths of pompous real people, and everyone has been in a meeting with people whose personal agenda appears to be to disrupt and self-promote as much as is humanly possible. Starring Hugh Bonneville , Jessica Hynes and Amelia Bullmore , the programme is a spoof on-location mockumentary following the organisation of the Summer Olympics in London. Twenty Twelve gained mainly positive reviews from critics, and a four-part second series was announced on 15 April , which began airing on 30 March on BBC Two. Several core characters went on to appear in a sequel, W1A , in Over the series, the ODC have to overcome logistical difficulties, production errors, infrastructure problems and troublesome contributors. The main character is Ian Fletcher, the Head of Deliverance, who is in overall charge of the ODC, and is generally efficient but often has to clean up a PR disaster after the other managers make a mistake. A running thread in series one are the hints that his marriage to a high-flying lawyer is breaking down, which comes to a head in episode six. It is evident that his PA Sally is in love with him, although this remains unspoken.
Mockumentary about the team organising the London Olympics. Written and directed by People Like Us writer John Morton and filmed in a similarly documentary style, Twenty Twelve follows the personal and professional challenges faced by those responsible for delivering the biggest show on earth - the London Olympics. The Olympic Deliverance team must try to get through to the end of the day, the end of the week and the end of the year without all the wheels falling off at once. The show deals with such hot topics as how to phase the traffic lights across London to get people from west to east; who to sell the Taekwondo hall to after the event; what to do when protesters leave large quantities of horse dung on the doorstep in protest at the siting of the equestrian events; and how to cope with sportsmen who want to help but are just too dull. From getting a busload of non-English speaking Brazilians from A to B; who to appoint to run the Cultural Olympiad; and what to do when the much-vaunted wind turbines won't turn because there's no wind, it's all in a day's work for the men and women whose job it is to stage the greatest sporting event in the world. In the second series split into two parts , the pressure mounts as the Games get ever closer. The Olympic Deliverance team must try to navigate their way through such delicate issues as how to handle the Algerian team's demand for a mosque in the Olympic village; how to carry out a Legacy Audit on the rival bids for the Stadium when no one knows what a Legacy Audit is; and how to deliver value for money when there isn't any money.
